A positive attitude can go a long way! Being the light that shines in the office will automatically draw people into you. Create an atmosphere that allows people to feel comfortable interacting with you.
Here are 4 guidelines on how to be likeable at work.
Greet those around you.
Many people do not consider themselves to be 'morning people', usually meaning that they are likely to be tired or irritable before noon. A simple "Good Morning" or "Good Afternoon" to someone around you could make the difference on how their day is going. It also shows that you are approachable.
Smile and make eye contact.
While someone is speaking with you, do your best to engage in what is being said. A smile and eye-contact assures them that you are listening to their thoughts- which creates a feeling of importance and appreciation.
Be a source of information.
Know your craft. Stay up to date on the trends, skills, and news about your profession and position. If others have a question, do your best to help find the information. Creating a sense of reliability on the job will put you on the good side of those around you.
Be intentional with your work and interactions
Others can tell when your actions are not genuine. Be intentional about your work assignments and put forth your best efforts. Also, be intentional with your co-workers. If you are asking about someone’s weekend, listen-then ask follow-up questions. If you do not have time to fully listen to their answer, simply give a greeting and have the conversation another time.
